A little bit about me
Hi! My name is Tonje and I am an artist. I love to paint. I always have. And whilst I Iove to experiment with different mediums and subjects, portraiture is the subject that I aIways return to. There is something so fascinating and challenging about trying to capture not only a subject's likeness, but their essence. My goal is always to create an artwork that makes you feel a real connection with whoever I am painting, be it a human or an animal.
When it comes to formal training I attended Einar Granum Kunstskole and Oslo Tegne- og maleskole for three years, starting 1999, and then I picked it back up after many years and started part time studies at Nydalen Kunstskole in 2018. I have also taken various courses studying under artists like Carl Martin Sandvold over the last five years.
Throughout the years my practice has mainly centred on two primary mediums: watercolour and soft pastel. I combine these with gouache, coloured pencils and sometimes oil pastels.
I am based in Norway much of the year, and when I am not making art I am out walking my dog (everywhere I go Stella goes!) and talking to the trees.
