Welcome to my website!
My name is Tonje and I'd love to show you some of my art.
Portraits have always been my favourite subject, and I never get tired of painting them. I enjoy painting other subjects as well, but I always return to portraiture.
For the last year or two I have really focused on children, and I especially love to capture intimate and quirky moments when they are off in their own world. Animals are also a subject I really enjoy, a painting of a pet or a wild animal can be just as much a portrait as a painting of a human.
I mainly paint watercolours and pastels, with a lot of layering in my watercolours and very detailed added coloured pencil for my pet portraits. These techniques take a lot of time and effort, but to me the extra work is worth it when I see the depth it brings to a watercolour or the realism of the fur in one of my pastels.
Because I want to have time for some of my other projects I only take on about 8 - 10 commissions a year. This allows me to give my full attention and time to both my original art as well my commissions, and make them as beautiful and intimate as I can.
A portrait is more than just a likeness, and I want to create art that makes you feel like you are really connecting with the subject, whether it's a human or a pet.
